Kainuun sote – Kainuu Social Welfare and Health Care Joint Authority
Kainuun sote is the main provider of social and health care services for Kainuu region municipalities: Hyrynsalmi, Kajaani, Kuhmo, Paltamo, Puolanka, Ristijärvi, Sotkamo and Suomussalmi.
The goal of the project was to provide easier access to social and health care service related information through website renewal
Accessing information quickly and easily is what users expect these days. To improve their customer service, Kainuun sote needed to renew their website. Everything needed to be accessible by any device and the content easy to edit.
The old site was already outdated and was challenging to browse and find information in, so Exove’s expertise in user experience and design was needed.

Easier access to social and health care service related information
The ease of content management and the excellent user experience were achieved by involving organization’s representatives but also the municipalities into the design process.
User experience improvements with prototype and end-user testing
At the start of the project design had field tests where people were able to try a prototype of Kainuun sote new webpages and they were interviewed about usage current Kainuun sote webpages, feelings about prototype and other expectations for coming pages.
Kainuun sote formed up a group of people living in Kainuu who participated to workshops where feedback was collected related to visuality and functionality of the web site from where best practices were transferred to implementation.
By using modern technologies and having a communicative relationship with the customer, we were able to provide our best service and have a satisfactory result for both parties. The project was split to two releases, the public beta release and the final release. With the public beta, we were able to get feedback from actual users and this helped with tweaking the user experience.
Focus on design and a high accessibility level
The site’s design was in great focus. Users felt the new design was easy to browse and information simple to find. Accessibility was also a key factor in the site renewal as every should be available for every user. Using Siteimprove’s accessibility analysis tool and the expertise within the company, we were able to reach a high accessibility rating. This guarantees that everyone can use and find the information they need.
